For almost 50 years now, we have been building extraordinary vehicles and developing automotive concepts that have attracted great attention and recognition worldwide … and still do. SGS Styling Garage has never lost its focus: As an engineer, trained vehicle builder and designer, it has always been important to me to combine function & aesthetics with each other in a technical + high quality way, so that in the truest sense of the word, “beautiful solutions” are created. Solutions that still work even after decades – as many vehicles that have “survived” around the world and are on display in collections and museums worldwide show in detail.

It was and is incredibly important to me that my customers not only receive their cars happily, but that they come back to us years or decades later to have them restored or given a “refit”. This is still the case today. With the smiles of my customers in mind, there are many exciting stories to tell! High-End Innovations

Gaining a foothold in the automotive world in 1978 as a weirdo – now called a nerd – was and always has been difficult. But when we started developing technical innovations in the early 1980s and building highly aesthetic, spectacular gullwing doors and convertibles based on MB, we became synonymous worldwide with luxury and style with exceptional standards. Many of our pioneering innovations (right) and some of our design elements became standard in the automotive industry. Many of our customers at the time still have our cars …

Personal & economic mistakes on my part have led to a life full of rollercoaster rides over the past 40 years. But one thing has remained the same in 2025. My ambition to build “awesome things”! And to make you – together with my small team – happy with our products..

Gullwings & Cabriolets

Our specialty for over 40 years now: It all started in 1981, when we cut the roof off the 500 SEC to develop spectacular gullwings and elegant convertibles. This complex, electro-hydraulic mechanism of the gullwing and the electro-hydraulic soft top drives for convertibles still impress today with their filigree way of opening and closing. Convertible top boxes that were flush with the bodywork became the standard in automotive engineering. Over the years, retractable hardtops followed, as well as perfected, elaborate closing processes in the convertible sector for a wide range of makes and models.

In 2025, we are still developing and building custom-made gullwing doors and fully retractable convertibles. Our already durable designs from the 1980s have been further refined, specified and perfected. So that you have fun!

The (long) SGS History ...

Anything was possible … the 1980s were the playground for spinning, tinkering, engineering fantasies and the most sophisticated customer wishes. We did it: for movie stars, conductors, pop stars, heads of government, despots, kings and sheikhs. But also for ordinary people who had a taste for individual, beautiful Mercedes-based automobiles. Vehicles that Mercedes could not supply at the time … and which today demonstrate the uniqueness of SGS!

From shooting brakes, sports station wagons, landaulets, stretch limousines, armored vehicles and wild creations. We have also produced these for well-known companies on behalf of third parties. We also have many developments & patents that we developed in the 1980s/1990s and which have become the standard in the automotive industry today. We have an eventful history to tell …
